Lingerie football's Super Bowl IX
While most of America concentrated on the big Super Bowl game in Indiana, the politically-incorrect Lingerie Bowl - in which female competitors wear only helmets, sports bras, knickers, garters, and shoulder, knee and elbow pads - was taking place in Las Vegas.
The event - which saw Los Angeles Temptation beat Philadelphia Passion 28-6 - started life as a pay-per-view alternative to the Super Bowl's traditional half-time concert.
The 'Lingerie Bowl' has now spawned its own industry and a league which boasts 12 teams playing in front of crowds in their thousands.
Los Angeles Temptation Head Coach David Bizub said lingerie football is taken seriously as a sport by players and fans alike.
"We've got all kinds of good athletes on this team. Not like it was at the beginning," said Bizub.
