Pakistan crush woeful England

Pakistan have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series with England after a convincing ten-wicket win inside three days in Dubai.

The day had started with Pakistan's tail end adding 50 runs to their overnight total to end their first innings on 338, a lead of 146 over England after their disastrous first innings.

It had been spinner Saeed Ajmal who had done the damage in the first innings but it was the pace of Umar Gul that proved to the downfall of England's top order, with Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen all going cheaply as Gul took 4-63.

Yet again England's top order failed to fire, with the exception of Jonathan Trott, the top six making 143 runs in total in two innings.

After the recognised batsman had gone Ajmal and Abdur Rehman set about taking the remaining wickets, both grabbing three apiece as England were bowled out for 160.

That gave the tourists a lead of 15 and Pakistan's openers easily knocked the runs off to wrap up a comprehensive victory for Misbah-ul-Haq's team.

Despite the dreadful start to the series, captain Strauss says there is no reason to panic ahead of the second Test which begins next Wednesday.

"We are disappointed with the way we played," Strauss told Sky Sports.

"There are plenty of things to ponder but we are not going to press the panic button. We need to come back strong and show our character and resilience in the second game."
