Asin, Ready for success

South star Asin has had a long hiatus from Bollywood since London Dreams was released in 2009.

Q. Was this long gap between London Dreams and Ready intentional?
I didn’t feel that after one hit, Ghajini, I had to sign a lot of films. I just thought I needed to work on projects that excite me and with teams that I would enjoy working with.

Q. But don’t you fear contemporaries racing ahead?
I am really not bothered about what the next person is doing, or matching up to their career moves.

Q. London Dreams with Salman did not work at the box office. So what are your expectations from Ready which stars Salman again?
You really can’t predict any film’s success or failure. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this one works. It’s a very commercial film, a format at which Aneesji is quite a master, so is Salman. So, I think, success is guaranteed.

Q. Will the success of Salman’s Dabangg raise expectations from Ready?
People are intelligent and know that this is a different film. Of course, it also stars Salman Khan and is also a commercial mainstream entertainer. Salman’s charisma would definitely be an attraction for the audiences.

Q. This is your second film with Salman Khan after London Dreams. Are you more comfortable with him now?
The interaction I had with Salman during London Dreams helped us have a comfortable relationship in Ready. We gel because I get his straight-faced sense of humour.

Q. Anything unique you got to know about Salman during Ready?
He is quite encouraging of new talent. I see a lot of young boys wanting to become heroes come up to him with their portfolios. He takes them under his wing and does whatever he can to help them, which I find quite endearing.

Q. Did the rumours of your link-up with Salman affect your working relationship?
I am single and I am not in a relationship. There was a picture of a supposed secret wedding and I was thinking, ‘Even we didn’t know about it!’ It was hilarious. In the end, they found it was from the Ready shoot. (Laughs).

Q. With Salman Khan in the film, is it possible to get a challenging role in the film?
That is in the hands of the scriptwriter or the director, not the lead actress. A superstar like Salman Khan deserves the adoration and the space he gets. You just do the part given to you to the best of your abilities.

Q. Are you upset that the hit item number, Character dheela has fallen into Zarine Khan’s lap?

Thankfully, I got a Dhinka chika. I love dancing. I am proud of Character dheela too. But I am a little more partial to Dhinka chika.

Q. From a solo heroine in Ready, what made you choose Sajid Khan’s multi-starrer Housefull 2?
Yeah, but I am the only one actress
opposite Akshay (laughs).
