Bachchan blasts 'fake' tobacco advert

Amitabh Bachchan has blasted a tobacco manufacturer which reportedly used a sound-alike of him to advertise its product.

The gravelly-voiced actor wrote on his blog that he was angered to discover a voice imitating his own was being used to advertise gutka - a mixture of chewing tobacco, crushed betel nut and spices.

"For someone that does not smoke or propagate smoking or any kind of intoxicant by keeping away from endorsing such products, it is most disgusting to find someone conflagrating the law of the land and the law of ethics, if ever they possessed one," he wrote.

While Bachchan is famed for his many endorsements, he accused the stunt by the tobacco company of undermining his credibility.

"Now, not only is this unethical and wrong, it paints me in bad light as well," the 68-year-old star said.

Bachchan threatened to take legal action explaining that he would take steps to "introduce elements bound by contract to see that such practices are not repeated in the future".
