Electric Burma: Aung San Suu Kyi Concert - Dublin, 18 June

AsiaEurope Events Recommends

On Monday 18 June, Nobel Peace Prize winner and Burmese opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi will make a short visit to Dublin on behalf of Amnesty International.  As you will be aware Aung San Suu  Kyi has been under house arrest or prison for 15 of the last 24 years and this will be her first trip to Europe since 1988.

It is a great honour for Amnesty and for Ireland to welcome her here. We are organizing a very special concert in her honour in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre featuring the finest in Irish and international talent.  The centerpiece of ‘Electric Burma’ will be the presentation of Amnesty International’s prestigious ‘Ambassador of Conscience’ award by Bono.   Previous recipients include Vacal Havel, Nelson Mandela, and Mary Robinson.   It will be a celebration of music, dance and spoken word and will include contributions from Bob Geldof, Damien Rice, Vanessa Redgrave, Riverdance, Lupe Fiasco, and more still to be announced.

This is an event which we will remember for the rest of our lives, not only because of the spectacular line up, but also because we will be in the same room as one of the few people who can be described as the conscience of the world.

The concert sold out within minutes, however we are offering a limited number of  ticket packages for the show at three levels:

Platinum:

Tickets at €1,000 per premium ticket in the dress circle or premium stalls, to include a VIP reception at the roof top lounge during the intermission (and after the concert to watch the Ireland v. Italy soccer match!) and a signed limited edition lithograph by designer Lluis Danes commemorating the concert for each guest.

Gold:

Tickets at €500 per ticket for premium seats in the dress circle or premium stalls, a drinks reception  and the signed limited edition lithograph.

Silver:

Tickets at €250 per ticket for seats in the stalls.

U2’s Bono commented, “It's so rare to see grace trump military might and when it happens we should make the most joyful noise we can. Aung San Suu Kyi’s grace and courage has tilted a wobbly world further in the direction of democracy. We all feel we know her, but it will be such a thrill to meet her in person.  How honoured we are that she should consider Ireland for one of her first real trips from home.”

This is a truly unique occasion and Aung San Suu Kyi deserves our support. All profits from the concert will go to Amnesty International and the Aung San Suu Kyi Trust for Education & Health.

I thank you in advance for your support. In order to buy these packages, or for information on sponsorship opportunities  please contact  Erin Callahan at 353 872 85 8315 or via e-mail at:  erin@electricburma.com.
