WBA confirms Amir’s rematch
President World Boxing Association (WBA) Gilberto Mendoza verbally confirmed for rematch of Pakistani born British Boxer Amir Khan’s with the American boxer Lamont Peterson.
Mendoza stated that the title fight was proved controversial and behaviour of Washington Commission was against the laws. Match referee tampered with the points of Amir Khan in 7th and 12th rounds and Amir lost his WBA and IBF Super Light-Welterweight crowns. The mystery man who was pointed out by Amir, was an official of International Boxing Federation. His name is Mustafa Ameen but he was not in Washington in an official IBF capacity.
Amir said, “We received verbal confirmation and we will get a written confirmation by next Tuesday.”
Khan’s camp had already lodged an appeal against the result with a decision expected later this month. The IBF has declined to comment until after the January 18 appeal hearing.
