Amir: I've got bigger fish to fry than Marcos Maidana

AMIR KHAN has ruled out the possibility of a rematch with Argentina's Marcos Maidana - as he looks set to land a glamour bout against Erik Morales.

Khan beat Maidana on points in December after a gruelling contest and the Argentine is desperate for a rematch.

But the WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion insists it's a no go.

Khan said: "Maidana's been saying I'm avoiding him and don't want to fight him, but he was my mandatory a year ago and I beat him fair and square.

"Now he wants a rematch but I've got bigger fish to fry.

"If I was to fight Maidana again I'd beat him again, only more convincingly this time."

Morales meets Lucas Matthysse for the WBC title in September and Khan, who is also eyeing a superfight against Floyd Mayweather next year, said: "I really want to fight the winner of Morales and Matthysse.

"That would be another title in the bank but it all depends on Morales."

Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer has revealed all the indications are that Khan will be granted his wish to meet Morales.

He said: "It's very likely Amir will face the winner, particularly if it is Morales."
